Holy Trinity Church, Blythburgh
Known locally as “The Cathedral of the Marshes”, Holy Trinity Church at Blythburgh is visible for miles from the A12 and like many other churches it relies on carefully designed and considered external lighting to make it a local landmark at night as well as by day.
The project brief included a reduction in running costs, light pollution and restricted glare whilst maintaining a warm colouring rendering to all elevations of this historic building.
The church was previously lit with a mix of sodium and other discharge fittings, with an estimated total power consumption of 2800 watts. By using new eco lighting technologies, this figure was reduced by an impressive 46% to 1500 watts, whilst still maintaining the same floodlighting positions.
Blythburgh PCC were delighted with their “Cathedral of the Marshes” resuming it’s place as a landmark feature on the night skyline of East Suffolk with the project completed on time and within budget.
